Bringing the Beach to the Midwest
1. Game Length & Time Limits
8U Machine Pitch: 1-hour time limit
9U, 10U, 11U Kid Pitch: 1.5-hour time limit
No new inning shall start once time has expired.
An inning will end with three outs or six (6) runs, whichever occurs first.
2. Tie Games (Pool Play Only)
If a game is tied at the end of the time limit:
The visiting team will be awarded 0.5 runs.
No extra innings will be played during pool play.
Bracket play tie rules will be announced prior to bracket play.
3. Field Setup & Base Distances
8U: 60 feet
9U / 10U: 60 feet
11U: 70 feet
4. Pitching Rules
8U – Machine Pitch
Pitching machine distance: 42 feet
Machine speed: 40 mph
A coach from the batting team will feed the pitching machine.
Each batter receives a maximum of six (6) pitches.
Any ball placed into the machine counts as a pitch.
Batter is out if the ball is not put into fair play by the 6th pitch.
Batter may continue after pitch six only if fouling balls off.
9U–11U – Kid Pitch
Live kid pitching only.
No pitching machines.
No intentional walks.
Drop third strike is allowed.
5. Pitch Count Limits (Kid Pitch Only)
Daily Pitch Limits
9U: 60 pitches per day
10U: 70 pitches per day
11U: 80 pitches per day
A pitcher may finish the current batter after reaching the limit but must be removed immediately after.
Required Rest by Pitch Count
The official scorekeeper’s pitch count is final.
Once removed, a pitcher may not return to pitch in the same game.
6. Defensive Alignment
Nine (9) defensive players required.
Infield: catcher, first base, second base, shortstop, third base
Outfield: left field, left center, right center, right field
Outfielders must remain in the outfield.
No rover or extra infielder allowed.
Nine players are required to start and finish a game.
7. Batting Order & Lineups
Teams must bat the entire roster.
Late arrivals will be added to the end of the lineup.
If a player leaves due to injury or illness, their spot is skipped with no out recorded.
If a player leaves for any other reason, an out will be recorded.
Removed players may not return.
8. Bunting & Ball in Play (Machine Pitch Only)
No bunting allowed.
Any attempt to bunt results in an automatic out.
A batted ball must travel past the arc to be considered fair.
For 8U only: If a batted ball hits the pitching machine, L-screen, coach, or umpire, the ball is dead and all runners advance one base.
9. Base Running & Stealing Rules
All Age Levels
Leadoffs are allowed at all age levels.
8U – Machine Pitch
No stealing.
Runners may advance only on batted balls or overthrows remaining in live play.
9U – Kid Pitch
Stealing is allowed.
Runners may steal 2nd base, 3rd base, and home.
Stealing home is permitted on a passed ball only.
10U & 11U – Kid Pitch
Stealing is allowed at all bases.
Stealing home is permitted on a passed ball only.
10. Equipment
Batters and all on-deck hitters must wear helmets.
Catchers must wear full catcher’s gear and play in a traditional catcher’s position.
Rubber cleats only (7U–12U).
Teams must have numbers on jerseys.
11. Scorekeeping
The home team is the official scorekeeper.
Completed scoresheets must be provided to the umpire after the game.
12. Run Rule
A game will end when one team is mathematically unable to tie or win.
13. Sportsmanship & Ejections
Sportsmanship is expected from players, coaches, parents, and spectators at all times.
The tournament director and umpires have full authority to enforce sportsmanship standards.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct Includes (but is not limited to):
Arguing balls and strikes
Use of profanity or abusive language
Taunting or baiting opponents
Excessive or malicious contact
Throwing equipment in anger
Spectator interference or verbal abuse
Ejections
Any player, coach, or spectator may be ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Ejected players or coaches must leave the playing area immediately and remain out of sight and sound of the field.
Ejected players or coaches will be suspended for the remainder of the game and the following game.
A second ejection during the tournament results in removal from the tournament.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Zero tolerance for verbal abuse toward umpires.
Coaches are responsible for the behavior of their parents and spectators.
Failure to control spectators may result in warnings, ejections, or team forfeiture at the discretion of the tournament director.
